ANTI-POACHER REWARD PROGRAM

The North Carolina Bowhunters Association (NCBA) established the Anti-Poacher reward Program in 1975, making this the oldest Anti-Poacher Program in the state of North Carolina. It was started as a means to encourage the citizens of North Carolina to help in stopping the illegal taking of our Wildlife. The reward was $50.00 in the beginning, then later increased to $100.00 per incident, and in 2004 the reward was increased to $200.00 per incident. Thousands of dollars in rewards have been paid out during those years.

In the beginning rewards were most commonly paid for violations concerning whitetail deer.  Several rewards have been paid for black bear violations. To this date no claims have ever been paid concerning wild boar. A few years ago with the restocking of the wild turkey there was a rise in the poaching of the wild turkey. The North Carolina Bowhunters Association paid out several claims on the wild turkey in the beginning. A few years ago the North Carolina Bowhunters Association teamed up in a joint venture with the North Carolina State chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation to pay for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone illegally killing a wild turkey. In the beginning it was $500.00. It has now been increased to $1000.00.  (NCBA pays $200 of this reward amount.)

All donations to this program have come from local chapters of the North Carolina Bowhunters Association, Wake County Wildlife (Dixie Deer Classic), North American Bow Hunter Jamboree (Broken Arrow, Brushy Mountain, New River and Wilkes Archery Clubs), individual members of the North Carolina Bowhunters Association, and sportsmen. Donations are welcome and needed from anyone or any organization that wishes to join in the effort to stop the illegal taking of our Wildlife.
