We'd like to submit the nomination of Lin Webb for induction into the North Carolina Bowhunters Association Hall of Fame. His past accomplishments and service to the NCBA are long and storied, and are as follows:

Pioneering:

I first met Lin in the late '80's when I took a buck I'd taken earlier to be officially measured. It was my first "book" buck, and Lin was more excited than I was. Lin has been a member of the NCBA since early 1975. The reason we know this, is he has all of his membership cards form that date forward to prove it. He never misses a chance to show them off to whoever he thinks may be interested in seeing them. He really likes to talk about the "old days" of the NCBA, and can recall when NCBA grew from it's beginnings to what it is today.

As some of you may know, Lin has weathered some tough physical ailments since 2004, with three major shoulder surgeries and most recently, in July 2008, he successfully underwent four way bypass, but he is still plugging along. Unfortunately, the physical damage to his shoulder no longer allows him to draw a hand held bow, and he is now relegated to hunting with a crossbow. Lin missed three out of the last four hunting seasons trying to regain sufficient use of his shoulder, but it wasn't meant to be. He doesn't like to talk about it, and knows the only way he can bow hunt now is to use a crossbow, or sit at home. Those of you who know him as long as we have, know he's not going to just sit around and watch as bow season passes by.

Lin is probably in the Top 5 of the very first regular members of the NCBA. He especially likes to talk about how the NCBA membership was kept on a roll-a-dex file, and how the NCBA magazine was typed out on a manual typewriter, hand stapled, assembled and mailed.

Service:

Lin is also one of the very first NCBA measurers, dating back to around 1977.

In addition, Lin is an official Pope & Young measurer, NBEF Instructor, NC Hunter Safety Instructor, North Carolina Lifetime Sportsman, NRA Rifle, Pistol, and Shotgun instructor, NRA Parton Member and United States Practical Shooting Association Level 1 Range Safety Officer.

Here's a list of SERVICE Positions Lin Webb hold or has held over the years:

  • 1977: NCBA Bowhunter of the Year
  • 1977: NCBA Bowhunter of the Year
  • 1977-2006: NCBA Area Representative (Now called Wildlife District Representative)
  • 1977-Present: NCBA Official Measurer
  • 1999-Present: Official Pope & Young Measurer
  • 2001: NCBA Outstanding Service Award
  • 2003: NCBA Outstanding Service Award
  • 2005-Present: Associate Council Member; NCBA Records Committee; NCBA Wildlife District Representative (District 4); NCBA Cross Bow Committee Chairman
  • 2007: NCBA Golden Arrow Award
  • Volunteer at Dixie Deer Classic "Scoring Room" from beginning (about 1990), to present (2009).

Lin has taken a variety of big and small game animals over the years to include:

  • Whitetail Deer: About 75-80.. he can't really remember exactly how many
  • Groundhogs: 23 ( He took all these before they were recognized as NCBA special category animals, so none of them are in the record book, but would have been.)
  • Bobcat: 1
  • Trash Dump Rats: Several Hundred
  • Bowfishing: 17 Carp; 3 Bowfin; 1 Longnose Gar
  • Small Game: Numerous Squirrels, Rabbits, Foxes, Quail, Racoons, Opossums.. basically anything that would walk under his tree stand if it was in season.

This about sums it up for Lin, and he probably knows what we're up to here after all the questions we've asked him about all this, so maybe he didn't catch onto what we had in mind. Anyway, we feel like Lin would be honored to have this nomination submitted on his behalf, so.. With that said, we, the undersigned NCBA members would like to officially nominate Lin to be inducted into the North Carolina Bowhunter Association Hall of Fame.

Lin was inducted March 7,2009 at 23Rd Annual NCBA Banquet in Raleigh, NC
