Dayne Welborn

Inducted March 20, 1999

Dayne founded Guilford Bowhunters in 1978. The first meeting was held in August and the club officially was formed in September, 1978. Founding the club was Dayne Welborn's idea. He called several people including myself, Connie Tysinger, Fred Smith and Ernie Shue, who are Charter members and still active members of Guilford Bowhunters. Dayne Welborn was the first president of the club. Guilford Bowhunters has grown to be the largest club of it's type in the state, and is the largest Local Chapter member of the NCBA.

Service to NCBA and Bowhunting:

  • NCBA Vice President - 1986 (Assumed Presidency in 1986 when Lester Ballard Resigned)
  • NCBA President - 1986 - 1990
  • NCBA Past President - 1990-91
  • NCBA Lifetime Membership for: "Service" awarded - 1990
  • "Regular" Member of the Professional Bowhunters Society (PBS)
  • Active member of Guilford Bowhunters Club; a NCBA Local Chapter Club
  • Served as officer in Guilford Bowhunters: Office(s): President Year(s): 1978 and for several years thereafter. (Exact years/dates unknown)
  • Initiated the concept of holding the "NCBA Awards Banquet" following the afternoon convention. The first "NCBA Awards Banquet" was held on February 21, 1987 at Kepley's Barn in High Point, N.C.

Hunting Accomplishments:

Dayne has been bowhunting for (at least) thirty-five (35) years. Dayne has taken numerous "out-of-state" hunts for a variety of big game animals and has been successful in harvesting the following animals:

  • Dayne has harvested numerous animals listed in the NCBA "All-Time Records Listings."
  • Wild Turkey
  • Bear
  • Caribou (2)
  • Whitetail Deer (Unknown number with bow)
  • Carp
  • Longnose Gar
  • Javelina (2001)
  • Kudo
  • Gemsbuck
  • Waterbuck
  • Dayne has also taken a number of small game species with bow and arrow.

Dayne was inducted March 20, 19999 at the 13th Annual NCBA Awards Banquet in Burlington, N.C.
