Charles "Pink" Atkins

Inducted February 16, 2002

Charles "Pink" Atkins is one of those people who just keeps on amazing all of us other "wannabe" bowhunters year, after year, after year. etc. His continued bowhunting successes, at his youthful age of 68, (*Circa: 2002) never ceases to amaze many who know him. And he does it his way, with a bow and arrow.

Pink has been a bowhunter, exclusively, since 1971 and has taken 13 P&Y trophy animals. At 68 years of age, he continues to get the job done. His hunting methods are sometime a bit unorthodox, but, they work. He has told me time and time again, "Do what the deer don't expect you to do and sometimes it works. Don't be disgusted with continued efforts when you KNOW a big buck, etc., is inhabiting the area you are hunting. Eventually, given enough time, he will make a mistake and your time will come. You just have to be ready when it happens. And, don't be afraid to make a move when the situation calls for it." In other words, "be persistent" and "be aggressive" with your hunting habits. Being satisfied and complacent with a unknown, unproductive and unsuccessful hunting situation is a sure formula for failure.

Charles "Pink" Atkins was named NCBA "Bowhunter of the Year" in 1988.

Pink has numerous listings in the NCBA All-Time Records listing as well as Pope and Young.

He has taken 7 other Black Bear and unknown numbers of whitetail deer and small game with his bow.

He has also taken Yellowstone Elk, Mule Deer, Russian Wild Boar (TN) and Rocky Mountain Goat with bow and arrow.

Service:

"Pink" Atkins has never held an office in the NCBA, but he's a "Regular" fixture at the annual NCBA Conventions. For many years, he has offered his services as guest seminar speaker at the annual NCBA Convention. He never accepts any compensation for his time and service to NCBA. He is probably best known for the bear hunting seminars and slide presentations he has presented at the NCBA conventions and for many bowhunting clubs across the state. If he possibly can, he will almost always accommodate any club or group of outdoor enthusiasts with a interesting, educational and entertaining presentation.

Charles "Pink" Atkins has been a "Regular" Lifetime NCBA Member since 1991.

Pink was inducted February 16, 2002 at 16th Annual NCBA Banquet in Burlington, NC
