I am submitting this nomination for Tonnie Elwood Davis for NCBA Bowhunter Hall of Fame.
Tonnie was born October 20, 1939 in Hemp, NC, (Now known as Robbins, NC). Tonnie says they must've changed the name from Hemp to Robbins because there wasn't enough hemp rope to hang all the bad guys. He started hunting and fishing as a young boy.
During the 1950's, he worked at J.P. Stevens and then went to Western Electric where he retired wtih 30 years service.
He has been married to Barbara for 50 years. They have three children.
PIONEERING:
Tonnie Davis has been instrumental in treestand safety. He worked hard teaching treestand safety while building one of the strongest, safest and most stable treestands ever made. In 1986, Tonnie started his own tree stand company called "Climax Treestand, Inc.", with great success. He has donated hundreds of stands for door prizes and other giveaways to NCBA and his local chapter club, "Guilford Bowhunters".
SERVICE:
Tonnie has been a mainstay member of NCBA for over 30 years. He has always made himself available to the membership, donating his time and money organizing and guiding tundra swan hunts every year for NCBA and Guilford Bowhunters club members. He showed that game other than deer could be taken with bow and arrow. Tonnie has guided many bowhunters to take tundra swans with the bow.
Tonnie's other interest is with the "North Carolina Trapper's Association" He founded this organization in 1972 and still serves on their board today. Tonnie's interests are many, but he is always ready to share his knowledge with anyone who wishes to learn from him. He has served NCBA for many years, in a number of capacities without every holding an office.
Tonnie has taken many animals with bow and arrow, including: whitetail deer, black bear, wild turkey, alligator, feral hog, groundhog, raccoon and tundra swan, all with his bow and arrow. This is his only choice of weapons now.
BOWHUNTING ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Tonnie Elwood Davis had taken numerous animals with his bow. He has Pope and Young Club entries from North Carolina, Colorado, and Alberta and Quebec, Canada. Below is a partial listing of animals taken with bow and arrow:
